“Quiet Simplicity”
Judy Martin constructs her pieces by layering and piecing torn fabrics by hand, and then stitching into them repeatedly with simple and familiar domestic stitches. Her imagery is archetypal, used for centuries across world cultures. The evidence of time and touch gives power to the work.

“Authenticity” with Line Dufour
“Making art/craft is perhaps less about the product and more about it being a means to express my own philosophy of life and relationships with others and myself. It is about a way of life and not about conformity or imitation. I see my art and craft work as a vehicle through which I undergo a personal transformation, which I hope will result in somehow having a positive impact on others.”

“Contemporary Textile and Mixed Media Compositions: An Artistic Exploration of the Fibre Medium”
The current work produced by Evann Frisque pays homage to her craft of choice, fibre arts. By using traditional craft practices to create visually alluring contemporary designs, she finds new ways of expressing her own artistic voice. With a BFA in Painting and a diploma in Fibre Arts, Evann bridges her two practices by creating compositions in her textile work which are largely informed by concepts and aesthetics developed through her painting background. The result is a visual conversation shared between the artist and her materials.
May 16, 2012
Amanda McCavour will speak about her practice and will show the development of her work through photos and samples of completed pieces. McCavour works in Toronto and makes drawings and fibre-based installations. This talk will focus on the vulnerability of thread, its ability to unravel and its strength when sewn together and how these ideas relate to McCavour’s current art practice.
